6th Typography Meeting
University of Aveiro, 4 & 5 December 2015
Presentation
The sixth edition of the Typography Meeting (6ET) is an event promoted and organized by the Portuguese delegation of the Association Typographique Internationale (ATypI). The present sixth edition is being hosted at the Department of Communication and Art at the University of Aveiro (DeCA) with the support of its main research units — DigiMedia e ID+.
This year's theme "Perception" intends for participants to reflect on the factors that enhance the functionality of typography. Factors such as legibility, readability and reading efficiency. As well as the emotional appeal transmitted through design, style or aesthetic options. How these factors enhance typography when used in different media (analog or digital), with different functions (reading, information, entertainment), or even when it's intended for different audiences (children and young readers, experienced readers, senior or visually impaired readers) .
The sixth edition aims to consolidate one of the main objectives of the conference: to establish itself as a national center for discussion and dissemination of typography. To this end, while maintaining the format of the previous editions, the program includes the participation of national and international invited speakers, along with the presentation of communications, projects and panel discussions resulting from the call for papers.

Call for Papers, posters, workshops & Discussion Panels:
The 6th Typography Meeting, devoted to the "Perception" theme, calls for the submission of original contributions in different typography application contexts.
We expect papers and posters in the thematic areas in which typography, or type design, plays an important role. These areas cross the theory and practice. The print and digital media. The static, the dynamic and the interactive environments.
Paper and Poster submissions must be made online through the EasyChair online submission system. Submitted papers will be judged by the Scientific Committee in a double blind peer-review system.
The submission of proposal for workshops or panel discussions must be made by email and will be considered by the organization, within the available conditions.
The papers accepted for presentation (communication) at the conference will be published online in the conference proceedings, with an ISBN.
Submissions may not contain any element that identifies its authors. The system EasyChair will perform the registration of each proposal, which must meet the following parameters:
- Title;
- Abstract of up to 500 words (communications), or between 250 and 500 words (posters);
- Category (paper or poster);
- Keywords;
- Topics (thematic areas).
Thematic Areas
The call for papers is organized (but not limited) to the following thematic areas:

The impact on the perception of organizations, events or individuals, made possible by the development of specific typographic based design projects. The role of typography in the development and in the perception of different publishing media such as books, magazines and newspapers.
Multimedia & Digital devices
The role of typography in communication and entertainment media such as websites, online and offline interactive applications, and in technological mediated contexts such as mobile devices, television, movies, or video games.
Environmental & Product Design
Relevant typographical applications within the scope of production, identification, and packaging products or systems. Or in the architectural and environmental integration (such as signs or lettering for buildings, temporary spaces, or the creation of museology communication, exhibitions and physical experiences).
History, Culture & Education
The evolution of technology and the social impact it causes. The perception of change on the evolution of typography and its related disciplines. The role that education and teaching have had throughout the time. And also how these roles have changed over time and place.
